What
is Cogeneration (Combined Heat & Power)?
Cogeneration (CHP) is the production of electricity
and utilization of the waste heat produced. This process
uses one source of fuel to produce two forms of energy:
electricity and heat.
What
are the benefits of Cogeneration?
The advantages of Cogeneration are lower electricity
costs, lower thermal energy costs, increased power reliability,
independence from outside suppliers and utility companies
and high peak power prices, and conservation of our
environmental resources. In addition to these benefits,
there are energy rebates and tax incentives for qualified
businesses.
Is
Cogeneration environmentally safe?
Cogeneration is considered a green-building
strategy. It is a low emission energy technology that
is supported by the United States Senate Committee on
Energy and Natural Resources.
Is
my facility a candidate for Cogeneration?
Industries that benefit immediately by installing
Cogeneration Systems include:
• Restaurants
• Fast Food Operations
• Hotels / Motels
• Schools / Universities
• Hospitals & Medical Clinics
• Convalescent Homes
• Retirement Facilities
• Apartments, Co-ops and Condominiums
• Industrial & Manufacturing Plants
• Health & Fitness Clubs & Resorts
• Recreation & Sporting Centers
• Commercial Laundry Facilities
• Commercial Office Buildings
How
will a Cogeneration System save me money?
Cogeneration will save you money by lowering
your energy costs and electric demand charges. CHP is
2-1/2 times more efficient than electric utility, which
means the system is producing electricity for less than
50% of the electric cost, plus utilizing up to 90% of
the waste heat as thermal energy for hot water, heating
and/or cooling. You will increase your independence
and rely less on your current electric power company.
Most natural gas suppliers have reduced natural gas
rates for customers with CHP. All Systems Cogeneration
Inc. generates a Quarterly Savings Analysis for all
our clients so they can see the value of their CHP investment.
Does
Cogeneration replace my existing boiler system?
CHP works in conjunction with your existing
boilers, and even extends the life of your system.
Will
the Cogeneration System provide power during a blackout?
No, the main use of the Cogeneration System is not to
provide back-up power. CHP works in conjunction with
your electric utility to optimize efficiency and reduce
monthly energy expenses by 30-60%.
What
happens if the system fails?
If the Cogeneration System was not operating, the building
would simply obtain energy in the normal manner from
the utility. All of our systems are monitored 24 hours
a day by a remote computer monitoring system, which
enables us to diagnose and restart the units remotely,
or dispatch field technicians for on-site repair.
Can Cogeneration
users sell electricity back to the utility company?
It is possible but not recommended. To sell back energy
to the utility requires additional relay protection gear,
which drives up the price of the system and reduces the
potential savings.
Is financing available?
Financing programs are available for all types of customers.
Most programs will allow customers to finance systems
and still provide a net savings on utility expenses.
Are
there any tax credits or rebates for CHP users?
Many facilities qualify for energy rebates and tax incentives.

for you.
